The “Toma Gajdek” route

The “Toma Gajdek” route is an easy circular route that takes you through Veliko Trgovišće and its surroundings. The ride passes through a landscape of alternating fields and gentle climbs, ideal for recreational cycling. Along the route, you discover the birthplace of Dr. Franjo Tuđman, as well as the Memorial School where he began his education. A special highlight is the Iron Age tumuli, large earthen mounds from the early Iron Age, considered among the most significant archaeological sites in northern Croatia. The route features a cycling rest stop, perfect for a short break before continuing your ride. It is named after Toma Gajdek, a priest who, in the mid-19th century, initiated the establishment of the first school in Veliko Trgovišće, leaving a lasting impact on the local community.
