The route “Laterna Magica”

The route “Laterna Magica” takes you through the hilly area around Zlatar, alternating between gentler stretches and climbs that require extra effort but reward you with panoramic views. Along the route, you’ll find cycling rest stops ideal for planning your ride and taking a short break. The path leads you to the Church of St. Mary of the Snow in Belec, a Baroque building renowned for its lavish interior. The hills are covered with vineyards producing award-winning wines and the view extends over the surrounding villages and green valleys. The variation in terrain adds dynamism to the ride, while cultural sites and the wine tradition make it richer. It is named after Slavko Batušić’s book “Laterna Magica,” which describes Zlatar at the beginning of the 20th century. Cycling along it, you discover the landscape, heritage and rhythm that shape the identity of this part of Zagorje.
