The “Hiže Mazanke” route is named after traditional houses built from oak beams, with thatched roofs and walls painted with blue woad. Once common throughout Zagorje, more of these traditional houses can now be seen along this route at the “Staro Selo [Old Village]” Museum in Kumrovec, unique in Croatia for preserving original architecture and showcasing the lifestyle, tools and customs of past times. The ride begins along the plains by the Sutla River, where the landscape marks the border and opens views of the Slovenian side, then gradually climbs toward the hills and forested areas. The route also features Veliki Tabor, a castle the silhouette of which dominates the area and evokes a rich history. The circular trail offers a variety of terrain and views, giving you the opportunity to experience the spirit of a Zagorje village and its heritage by bike.
